This manuscript uses Celtic knotted letters, similar to those found in the Book of Kells, Versal capitals, and the Fraktur, Black Letter, and Uncial hands. The colors include red, blue, green, gold, and black. The largest words are the first verse of the hymn "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" by George Matheson. The passage from Romans 8:38, 39 fills the space between the lines of this hymn. The whole piece is surrounded by I John 4:10.

  • Story Behind the Art

This hymn was commissioned by the mother of a friend whom I joined on a mission trip to New York City. This friend is a virtuoso pianist who loves the Lord. His mother gave this to him upon his graduation from Juilliard School of Music. The Lord used this hymn to encourage him during a difficult time in his life. Since making prints of this manuscript available to others, I have received comments of how this profound truth of God's love has ministered strength and hope.

  • Text

O love that will not let me go,

I rest my weary soul in Thee.

I give Thee back the life I owe,

that in Thine ocean depths its flow

    may richer fuller be.

    George Matheson

    Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    I John 4:10

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
