Mark 1:17

Mark 1:17

This verse is lettered in an informal style. The fish sign reminds us that Jesus makes us become fishers of men. The blue background with the horizon and clouds above give the setting of a sea.

In the early church, the fish was also used to speak of Christ Himself. Here is a description:

The Jesus fish is a well recognized symbol consisting of two curved lines that resemble the image of a fish. The symbol is also known as an Ichthys (coming from the ancient Greek word for fish). IXИYУ is an acronym coming from the first letter of words that mean “Jesus Christ God's Son is Savior.” (taken from allaboutgod.com)

  • Story Behind the Art

This verse was lettered as a gift for children at our church when they were baptized. What a treat to hear children tell about how the Lord has worked in their hearts to bring them to the point of believing in Christ! Being baptized is one of the first steps of obedience in following Him. As we continue to follow Him, He makes us become "fishers of men".
