An embellished Chancery Cursive style was used to show the crown of beauty, oil of joy, and garment of praise, in contrast to a Simple Roman style for ashes, mourning, and despair. The larger letters in the Fraktur style are used for oaks of righteousness. The size increases for the display of "His Spendor" which is done in gold with a double outline of the letters. Story Behind the Art
This piece was a custom order for the graduation of a young man who had attended our church. His mother had previously made it through a bout with cancer. We saw the "display of His splendor" as the Lord brought her through this trial. What a blessing for parents to give God's Word to their children at milestones in their lives. This son went on to be a chaplain in the military.
Text
. . . to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and the garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor. Isaiah 61:3b
